Zelensky noted that it might be easier for Trump to pressure Kyiv than Moscow, but he said sustainable peace cannot be established if Vladimir Putin is handed victory. ➡️ Trump recently stated that the burden of compromise lies with Zelensky. Zelensky told Axios that he hopes this is just a negotiation tactic and not a final position. ➡️ He thanked Trump for his peace efforts and noted that personal conversations with Jared Kushner and Steve Whitkof were full of respect and free from the public pressure evident in Trump's statements. ➡️ Zelensky said he is ready to consider a bilateral troop withdrawal, provided Russia takes the same step. However, he warned that any agreement that only involves the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces or territorial concessions without reciprocal steps from Russia will be rejected in a referendum. The Ukrainian people reject any peace agreement that implies Ukraine unilaterally leaves the Donbas region and hands it over to Russia.
